On the road again
25 juli 2024 - Toulouse, Frankrijk
Onto Bordeaux this time. Which means that I can't really say much about that yet. I can say a couple things about Toulouse however. It is a nice city with it's share of beautiful sights to see.
Temperature wise I have been living in an eternity of 30+ degree weather it feels like, only occasionally alternated by a welcome rain. This leads to the following conclusion for me, I have nothing against 30+ degree weather, as long as I can stay reasonably cool myself. Luckily that does seem to be possible. Many places feel this need as well and act accordingly, making my stay in general a lot more pleasant.
At the start of my travels I had a few minor worries about how well I would be able to handle so much heat and so far the heat seems quite handleable. In no small amount due to the everpresent airconditioning everywhere.
Regarding French food. So far I have to say I am still underwhelmed. I am feeling a certain lack of gelato and good pizza still. I did encounter some excellent Spanish and Turkish food in Toulouse though. Although I do have to give the French credit for their desserts.
Back to sightseeing in Toulouse, it has it's share of beatiful buildings and places, in particular there is the natural history museum that is very well done. And than of course there are several churches, basilica and even a convent worth visiting as well. The Jacobin convent holds the bones of Thomas Aquinas and the Notre-dame de la Dalbade manages to surprise me with one of my favourite bible quotes as well as a really large organ.
So to sum it up I had quite a good time in Toulouse, but am also very much looking forward to Bordeaux. My French is getting a little better and my appreciation of France as a whole is growing ever so slightly.
