Training

26 april 2024 - Athene, Griekenland

I've found that typing out these stories on my phone while waiting for or on transport is an excellent way of spending my waiting time. Currently sitting at Athens Railway Station waiting for my train. So far so good. I made it to the right platform on time, or maybe rather an hour early. But given that I had an online ticket for the wrong day it's probably for the best that I decided to get here early. I took the metro again, which is fast. It's a lot of things, but fast is probably the most positive one.

I've spent the last couple days walking through Athens, looking at things, usually old stones and rocks. If you're into that Athens is definitely worth a visit. It has multiple large sites specifically created with that purpose in mind. A couple of ancient agoras and the acropolis for example. They really excel at showcasing the beauty and architectural skill of the ancient buildings they once held. These sites also help in navigating the town since the majority of streets are narrow and going in every direction. But you can only go for so long until you bump into a landmark that really helps finding your location on a map back. Without those it would be a lot easier to get lost. In comparison to Dutch streets it's also worth noting that Athens isn't flat. Sometimes streets are actually stairs. Sometimes they're not stairs but still steep enough to not make a difference. But the elevation doesn't help with your coordination because all streets are surrounded by buildings that seem really large because the streets are so narrow. Many are normal 2-3 story houses. They just look very big through the forced perspective. And than, some things just are very big.
