Here we go
8 augustus 2024 - Parijs, Frankrijk
It is time again for the next part of this journey and this time it's somewhere I've been before. A lot. Home. I decided that it would be practical to spent a few weeks at home before continuing on my trip. Taking a break from all this travelling. Change some things about my bags, apparently I really need more socks. Before I left Angers this morning I threw out 4 pairs for being partially desintegrated already. I also really miss having a decent laptop for playing some games. And it's a nice opportunity to see friends and family of course.
This means that I am currently on a train between Paris and Amsterdam that is supposedly going quite fast. As far as trains go, best one I've ever been on. Due to my skillfull planning I actually had a couple hours to spare between arriving in Paris and leaving again. I can highly recommend it for sightseeing purposes, although it seemed quite crowded. But that was probably just the Olympics being everywhere in Paris. Probably.
I have somewhat little to say about my destination as it holds practically no surprises. But it does have an amazing bed and shower as well as weather that should be at a reasonable temperature. No more of that 25+ degrees stuff that I've been having the past 5 months. No more young cheese, without chocolate milk. Some stores in France do sell it, but only in those small 6 cartons packages style. And that just doesn't quite make me happy.
At this point, despite really looking forward to going home I can also say that I haven't felt homesick yet. Probably a good thing considering the amount of travelling I have still planned. I am definitely more aware of what I'm missing while travelling though.
I think my previous blog was about my trip from Toulouse to Bordeaux, which means a little update is required. I spent 5 days in Bordeaux and after that 5 days in La Rochelle and after that 5 more days in Angers. All of these cities are highly goodlooking. I had almost forgotten how good a city could look after leaving Italy. They're also ancient. At least Bordeaux and Angers have Roman or pre-Roman roots. And you can see it in the streets that these have been city centres throughout the centuries that had a little extra to spend on being pretty. I can highly recommend visiting all of them.
