New Turkish Adventures

22 maart 2024 - Büyükkum Mahallesi, Turkije

Yesterday I had some new Turkish experiences here. These were surprisingly Dutch in nature. I went on a bike ride and I had some rain. Which was great. Most people here get around on a motorbike or a scooter of some sorts. Few use a bike, but they're there. I wanted to visit a local museum, but that was at least an hour walking distance. So I borrowed the hotel owner's bike, he has one for guests that want to use it. Always standing out front. No locks of any kind. It's a mountainbike for teenagers. Or perhaps that is just my interpretation as I do seem somewhat taller and larger then everyone else in this town. It was very rusty, to the point where the steering had trouble moving and needed  some wiggling to get loose enough to be safe. Luckily my road was pretty much straight from hotel to museum. Where the steering wasn't loose enough the saddle was the exact opposite and definitely too loose. But it worked and turned my 1h walk into a 20min cycling trip. It was wild but fun and only a little bit scary. The experience with the rain however was very different. Turns out that rain in March here means a slight drizzle while the sun is still going at about 20 degrees. Almost too little to even be refreshing. All in all these new experiences have been fun and I am curious about everything that is yet to come.
